Give us some background on some of the members of your team and the company that you work for.

I started Artminister with two of my university friends in late 2008. Our forte is web design, semantic Front-end coding and Expression Engine Development. We have worked with EE for more than 3 years for large clients such as SoutheastaAsia.org, Canon, Southpointe Academy, National Library Board Singapore to name a few.

We started with Joomla and Drupal as our main content management system, but were always looking for a better solution for our clients. Once we discovered EE, we didnt go back. We are proud to be one of the first companies to introduce EE to Singaporean clients. Popularity of EE in local market is getting bigger and better and we relish the opportunity.

Tell us about the site. What vision were you trying to fill for the client?

Canon Style Ixus is a microsite for Canon’s Digital IXUS range of cameras. Canon wanted to involve prominent bloggers from Singapore and engage the audience with fashionable and unique Ixus range of cameras. The bloggers travelled all around Southeast Asia to capture their moments using Canon Ixus cameras and shared their experience in the website via blog posts.

The website is also running a voting contest, where users can upload photos and public can vote on them.

Was there a specific reason why EE was chosen for this project? Why?

We are EE fanatics? Basically the client needed the project done in 2 weeks, both front-end and CMS integration. EE is always our first choice for the clients because of its user-friendliness, flexibility and quick setup time.

What add-ons were used? and why?

We used a modified version LikeEE for contest voting. Contest submission is powered by safecracker, which took us minutes to setup. Wygwam and Matrix from P&T were used for content entry. A custom extension was created so that user submitted photos are viewable easily in the back-end. Deeploy Helper was used to migrate servers. Git was used for version control.

A customized version of Flickr, by Digital Wax Works was also used to pull photos from flickr.

What difficulties did you encounter? How did you address them? Was there a particular add-on that got you out of a bind?

We had a couple of issues with site migration and control panel login. The main company site resided in a different server from the microsite. A proxy was used for URL re-direction which caused a few issues with EE cookies and sessions. Admins were unable to login to the control panel. We had to go with a temporary fix by mapping a new URL to the microsite.

In the beginning, we used Freeform coupled with Logmein for contest submission, as guest can submit entries to the channels. This created session timed out errors and users could not submit their entries. So we did the switch to Safecracker and everything started working well.
