This is a New Zealand Wedding vendor directory with ratings and reviews. The idea behind the site is to offer a place with the most comprehensive list of local wedding service providers, let vendors list themselves for free, and then allow brides and grooms to make smart choices by reading ratings and reviews from other brides and grooms.
The site is powered by it’s own custom search function which can filter by weblog/channel, category (used for locations), keyword, and also tags, as well as sorting by many different options (rating, name, date, premium, etc.)—all this powered simply by segment variables. (Developed before Super Search was released but I can’t use that anyway because it’s doesn’t support Rating).
The listings themselves make use of a huge amount of custom fields to enter different bits of contact information as well as text, image galleries, lists, audio, tags, locations, and more all neatly organized and foolproof. All this is presented on the front-end in a clean and intuitive way to allow quick viewing and comparison of different vendors.
Many add-ons used on this one with the largest being Rating (to rate and review vendors), Freeform (there are tons of forms—used for customers contacting the vendors, requesting a new directory listing, contact, etc.), Seg2Cat, Structure, Matrix + nGen File + imageSizer + lightbox for effortless photo galleries. I also have audio player functions with EE templates powering the custom XML feeds for playlists, all easily edited through EE custom fields on the backend.
We’re also running extra channels for blog, events list, static pages, and more. It’s proof that EE is great at handling large site (we’ve got thousands of vendors listed) and easy to manage for day-to-day use.
