Merivale
Merivale owns and operates dozens of bars, clubs and restaurants around Sydney and were looking for a way to bring all of their individual venues under one website as opposed to having their own websites. The basic idea was that each venue could have it’s own area on the site while being able to cross-promote with other venues and events.
We had some pretty tight deadlines to meet and our client had a less than positive experience with the previous incarnation of their website. So when they approached us we really wanted this to go a smoothly as possible to help restore confidence in their web presence and show them that not all web development has to be painful and fraught with disappointment.
After researching several possibilities we, at Lamrock Creative, settled on ExpressionEngine as it offered the best way of connecting all of the data and templates with an excellent administration interface. We also found that most of our objectives could be achieved via third party add-ons combined with some custom development.
Before launch we had a training session with the end users and showed them how to manage the website content in ExpressionEngine. We had been using the interface for a while at this point and had pretty much taken it for granted. It wasn’t until we first introduced it to the end users that we realised how much easier it was going to make their jobs. It was exactly what they had hoped for with a perfect mix of functionality and intuitive navigation. This is one of the few developments where the clients, for the most part, had managed to figure out the administration interface with minimal support from us.
One of our main concerns was how well it would operate under heavy load when it was eventually pushed into production. We had run many tests in development and staging environments but you can never be sure until you go live. Thankfully everything pretty much went off without a hitch and has been running strong and steady since our initial launch in December 2011.
ExpressionEngine has definitely proved itself to be an excellent solution for larger websites such as this and we intend to continue to use it as a solution for future projects.
