Guide of Hawaii is a website devoted to sharing the best attractions, accommodations, and general information about visiting Hawaii. In operation since 2002, we started using Expression Engine in 2007 and never looked back. Users can review and rate entries using the rating module combined with the native commenting system. Visitors can also add places they want to see/visit to their virtual itinerary using the Favorites module. One of the most difficult challenges we faced while building the site was determining how to separate the four islands templates without having to manually edit four sets of templates. The solution was a little embed trick, where we built one master template, and then used an embed with a “trigger” variable (helped with Low2Cat to pull the first segment) to help Expression Engine determine the island the template was needed for. This saved and continues to save us a tremendous amount of time when editing templates throughout the site. One add-on we particularly enjoyed working with was MX Maps, which is a free add on. This provided us the ability to display geographic maps on the site for each attraction. Honestly, the site wouldn’t be what it is without the amazing add-ons from the many fantastic developers out there; especially our kudos go out to Solspace and Pixel and Tonic. Expression Engine is an amazing Content Management System and Guide of Hawaii wouldn’t be what it is without EE and the community that supports it. A big Aloha and mahalo (thank you) to EE and all the developers out there.

No doubt that travelers hoping to visit Hawaii would find this site really useful. Without much information it becomes difficult for us to plan our vacation properly. Especially having the proper information on hotels, sight seeing spots is very important.

As tourism is on the rise, accessing travel oriented information is becoming important. You have a well designed site. To make a vacation perfect we need to have high quality service. So you need to find good accommodation. I was looking for information on DMC Tel Aviv when I saw your post.

I am looking for some hawaii hotel deals; does anyone know where I can find some? I tried the guide but it is a little outdated and the prices are higher than in the guide. I would love some hostels or someone that is renting cabins.
