This was a unique project being I am also a partner in the company. The one page static site was created in just one night as an idea and expanded to a full functioning e-commerce site a few months later. To accomodate the original design and keep things simple I opted to focus on the photos and really showcase the 4 products currently manufactured and sold. I liked the long single page and wanted to keep the initial feel but expand on it.
There are only 3 channels for the whole site. One is ‘Home’ which stores two entries for each season, the second is ‘Image Gallery’ which has one channel images field the image gallery for each season, the third channel is ‘Videos’ which has one channel videos field for easy video updating and sorting. Loving channel videos and how simple this makes managing video content.
The site runs on Brilliant Retail. Because of the limited amount of products the site isn’t your typical e-commerce site. I really stripped things down and kept things smart and simple. There is no product page for each individual product, rather all products are served on the same homepage. Brillitant Retail’s new Shipping Matrix helped us set up flat rate international shipping for the two smaller products while retaining USPS and UPS shipping modules for multiple items, wholesale orders and larger products. Payments are processed with Paypal Pro, the option of paying with paypal standard and a comodo ssl certificate.
There is also two flavors for the site ‘summer mode’ and ‘winter mode’ This was a bit challenging at first and I was originally going to use Conditional Global Variables to change seasons and content based on time of year. Ultimately decided we wanted to give the user options to switch between seasons and used PutTheLightsOn Multi Language module to achieve this. Making ‘summer’ the default language with the addition of ‘winter’ allows for quick and seamless development while changing some content and serving up different style sheets depending on the season.
The site also has a reseller section which is only accessible by members in the reseller group. Brilliant Retail worked will in easily setting up product bundles and appropriate wholesale discounts for dealers and resellers. All in all was a pretty painless site to develop being I was my own boss!
