Foxglove Covert Local Nature reserve approached Make Hay to redesign their existing static website presence and create a new system which could be maintained by non-technical reserve staff. We started with a clean slate and created all the design visuals, HTML & CSS and used the stunning wildlife photographs to bring out the character of the reserve.

This was a fairly large project involving several very different content sections and used a variety of add-ons. WYGWAM is used extensively across several sections to make client editing a breeze. Landing pages for sections use Matrix entries to allow the client to add custom content (e.g. Homepage, Education) which the client can edit at will. nGen file fields combined with imgszr and Matrix are used to create the Gallery sections making each ‘Gallery’ a single entry and easily edited.

Supersearch was deployed for the ‘advanced search’ to help filter results as there are over 500 blog entries and a growing list of species on the reserve. This advanced search allows you to restrict searched to specific sections.

400 existing blog posts were imported from Blogger and converted to an easy to update blog section in expressionengine using WYGWAM. The client now updates this daily as its so easy to use compared to the system in Blogger.

The Reserve ‘Species lists’ section exists primarily for biologists and researchers and is a growing database of the species on the reserve - this section has its own Solspace supersearch added to help filter the section.

We designed an ‘Interactive JQuery map’ of the reserve (under Facilities) which uses Point-ee in combination with Matrix to create an array of clickable map points with pop-up details. The client simply clicks on the map to grab coordinates and enters the related content in a set of Matrix custom fields.

Donations and other simple e-commerce interactions are handled using Freeform combined with PayPal allowing Foxglove Covert to accept payments without the hassle of a full shopping cart. Event bookings are also handled by Freeform with a simple dynamic event form created each time the client adds an event.

The site was an instant success with the client and visitors alike and EE performed like a champ as always. The team at Foxglove Covert are very hard working updating the site daily without a hitch. The site runs on our Wind Powered Green Hosting server.
