Elm Creek Quilts
Jennifer Chiaverini is a New York Times Bestselling author of the Elm Creek Quilts series of books. We designed her original site in EE 1.4.1 back in 2005 and recently, Jennifer hired us to completely redesign and upgrade her site in preparation for her most recent book, The Union Quilters, so we based the design on its cover.
Jennifer’s site features a portal-style homepage that provides sneak peeks into the various interior sections of her site. She also has a custom structured Books area that utilizes related fields to link content to/from other channels, like pulling related quilts from a particular book or displaying press regarding a specific title.
Her galleries incorporate a photo gallery, a fabric gallery, a quilt gallery and a pattern gallery, each with their own unique structure of custom fields and functions.
The biggest change in her redesign was the incorporation of a community, using Solspace’s Friends module. We’ve set up personal profiles for each member and offer groups so that members can create virtual book clubs (among other discussions). The Readers’ Circle, as this community area is called, is only accessible to logged in members.
Jennifer is often traveling for book signing and quilting events, so she also has an events calendar that displays her upcoming event venues, dates, cities she’ll be visiting and any other details regarding that event. When her tour or event is over, the event display removes itself from the calendar.
The Elm Creek Quilts site is much more up to date and can now grow with Jennifer as she publishes more and more books!
