This was a fun project we had the pleasure of working on for a local Atlanta interactive marketing agency called Big Squid Interactive. They offer search engine optimization, pay-per-click management, and social media marketing services to an ever-growing list of clientele.

The site structure is super simple, but BSI gave us a ton of leeway to create a design that unquestionably helps establish their quirky brand identity. And, how often does anyone ever get to draw a squid?

Give us some background on you as a developer and the company that you work for.

16toads Design is a multidisciplinary web design and development firm located in Atlanta, Georgia. We have built a reputation over the past fifteen years for crafting strategically sound, off-beat creative solutions for clients who value our personalized service and attention to detail.

This was a terrific illustrative project and we are thrilled to have had the opportunity to work with a company who gave us the leeway to be truly creative. Even in the design business, this is a rare occurrence, and we look forward to working with Big Squid on future endeavors.

Just last week, we received word that BigSquidInteractive.com was honored with a Silver Award from the 2010 W3 Awards.

Was there a specific reason why EE was chosen for this project? Why?

ExpressionEngine is our default CMS.

What add-ons were used? and why?

Structure and Wygwam. The staff at BigSquid are highly proficient with web-based application interfaces, but we still used these indispensable add-ons to help streamline their internal site management processes.

What difficulties did you encounter? How did you address them? Was there a particular add-on that got you out of a bind?

Due to our client’s priorities, far more emphasis was placed on the look and feel than on the technical underpinnings of the site. Nevertheless, Big Squid administrators can manage all site content including the ability to add meta tags on an entry-by-entry basis. Our primary goal was to deliver a technical solution that would allow for limitless future expansion and only EE can provide this ultimate flexibility.
