This is a site for the Autism Society of Northern Virginia’s (ASNV) Arts for Autism Gala. It is a redesign project that included a visual overhaul to add additional polish and feeling to the presentation of the event in coordination with technology improvements most notably around fundraising.

To share some context, the Arts for Autism Gala is an event where in addition to general donations and ticket purchases there are 50+ Champion Fundraisers that are each trying to raise $2500 in ticket sales/donations. All proceeds of this event benefits the Intervention Assistance Fund which provides families with mini-grants offered by the Autism Society of Northern Virginia to pay for treatments and therapies not covered by local or state services.

We used a combination of ExpressionEngine and our Giving Impact (http://givingimpact.com) Fundraising API to build out this site. We set up a simple General Page channel and organized the entries using one of our favorite modules, Taxonomy. The site’s content is managed with our support per request of ASNV, so there was not a need to set up the site for client content management.

Giving Impact (http://givingimpact.com) is a hosted online fundraising platform that we developed with an API and select white label hosted features. To support the champion fundraiser concept, we evolved the Giving Impact Fundraising API to have the capability to have multiple, unique Giving Opportunities within a campaign. In other words you can have mini-campaigns within a main campaign. This allows for tracking each Champion Fundraisers efforts uniquely while at the same time aggregating all champion data up to the main campaign. To monitor progress ASNV logs in to Giving Impact to track activity in their campaign dashboard. They also can create new Champion Fundraiser’s within the campaign that are immediately published to the web site.

We developed a custom module for ExpressionEngine to facilitate communication with the fundraising API and to handle some basic data processing. The module offers a series of ExpressionEngine template tags that make integration with Giving Impact data/features with ExpressionEngine’s template system extremely easy to employ. These tags range from campaign image, description, current total, financial target, link to the campaign donation page/checkout, and recent donors to name a few. Once the module was in place, it made pulling data from Giving Impact and displaying it in our templates incredibly easy to do and allowed us to deliver a seamless, fully branded campaign site.
