Alternative Press is one of the most widely circulated alternative/independent music magazines in the world.  Their previous site had been built many years ago with Cold Fusion, so we needed to rebuild it from the ground up.  The initial hurdle was moving the content over from the Cold Fusion MSSQL DB into the EE DB without losing anything in translation.

The idea was to capture the unique look of AP Magazine, while simplifying it for an easier web browsing experience.  The AP reader base is somewhat youthful, so the site needed to grab the attention of a younger audience and hold it on the site for as long as possible.

At launch time, the site had 12 different weblogs including a video channel, three different levels of band profiles, a hybrid user/editorial album review system, and several types of editorial content.

We wanted to seamlessly integrate popular social features like the Disqus commenting system, Facebook page widget, custom tabbed Twitter widgets and the Add This button.  All of which can be controlled by the editorial staff via the EE control panel, simply by dropping in Twitter user names and Facebook IDs.
