Aegis Software approached us to convert their existing static site to a dynamic site built on ExpressionEngine. Their internal marketing team produced the design and HTML and we implemented the EE functionality.

The client required the site to be multi-lingual, but since the site design and content was going to be the same for each language, we decided to use a single EE instance instead of MSM. We used the Multi Language module for easy translation of short phrases. We opted for this instead of Low Variables because in this case, it was useful for the translators to be able to easily see which phrases hadn’t been translated and Multi Language has a nice tabular display.

For content translation, the client hoped to be able to create a piece of content in English, clone it, and then assign it to the appropriate translator. We accomplished this by using the MX Cloner Add-On and member assignments. We created a Translators group, with one member for each language. All content for that language was configured with that translator as the author. We then configured the permissions so that each translator could only see their own content, so that they wouldn’t be confused about which content was theirs.

Ultimately this was a very successful project – so much so that we are in the middle of a next phase of development to include the Forums module and intranet functionality. We anticipate the content on the site to quadruple in the next 6 months.
